Richard Swirsky is a former Akron City Councilman, teacher, and counselor Who served as the Akron Area Director for Ohio Citizen Action (formerly Ohio Public Interest Campaign) from the 1970’s-1990’s. Richard championed the cause of rubber workers who were losing their jobs due to plant closures, and advocated for policies that supported manufacturing jobs, workforce development, economic stability, civil and environmental justice. Richard’s stories honor the legacy and lives of the people who made Akron the “Rubber Capital of the World.”
