Women as Draftsmen

Arlene Secrist was born in Akron in 1930, and was one of 13 girls hired by Goodyear as a Draftsman in 1950. The opportunity was advertised in the Akron Beacon Journal and there were more than 200 applicants . “We all ended up working at Goodyear Aerospace,” says Arlene Secrist. “I was one of those girls, and was a senior electric draftsman from 1951-56 . I worked on the 2nd floor of the building, inside the hanger.”
